The Louvre, Princess Diana and Eiffel Tower by Night

Today was a great day! Once again the weather was far from perfect, but with warm clothes, umbrellas and a positive spirit we were good to go. First on the agenda was the Louvre. The Louvre is probably the most famous museum of Art in the world. The highlight is The Mona Lisa. For some reason, the kids were so excited to see the Mona Lisa - (as a kid, I don't think I would have been quite so giddy, but I think their art teacher back in Georgia had something to do with it) Anyway, from the picture you can tell how small it actually is, but to think that it is the ORIGINAL painting from the year 1503 was Amazing. Our entire lives we have seen duplicates and this was the real deal. It was so neat. The art work throughout the museum is amazing and I have posted a few other pictures. If you have ever seen the Divincci Code, you will recognize the outside pictures (of the pyramid).
Second on the Agenda was quite sad. Ever since we traveled to London, Bailey has had a huge fascination with Princess Diana. She has heard about her sons (William and Harry) and researched all about her life before we went to London (we got to see where she lived at Kensington Palace when we went there). She really wanted to see the tunnel that her accident occured in and also the makeshift memorial that was set up. It was very sad. The tunnel is located just up from the Eiffel Tower on the opposite side of the Seine River. Surprisingly it is an extremely short tunnel (we all assumed it was a long tunnel, but looking in you can see the opposite side (you can see it in the picture). The makeshift Memorial is actually a Franco American gift to France (a statue of an eternal Flame), but ever since her death it has become a symbolic place to remember her, even though there is actually no formal monument in remembrance of her in France as of yet.
Lastly, we visited the Eiffel Tower at Night! I can truly say that this was one of the most spectacular sites we have ever seen. It SOOOO Pretty!!! It is definitely more of a sight to see at night than during the day!
We totally figured out the Metro system and love it now. It is very easy and convenient to get everywhere. People have been very helpful and have definitely not fit the traditional stereo type of the French being rude. As long as you said Bonjour, Merci, and Auvoir they knew you were trying and were quite helpful! A very nice surprise!
