They say, "you can't do Rome in a Day".....After leaving Vatican City, we took a bus to Rome (or Roma as the Italians call it). The Colosseum was first on the agenda. It is smack dab in the city, and quite impressive - almost surreal to be standing in front of such a famous sight. Camden especially liked the Colosseum! We then walked our way up passed the Forum to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. As a must see on Bailey's list, we then headed to the trevi fountain (where it is said that if you throw a coin in the fountain, you will someday return to Rome - which we definitely intend to do). We stopped at a little Pizzeria for lunch, where we chatted with a man who was studying to be a priest - which was quite fitting in this catholic city. After lunch we headed to the Pantheon (which was our favorite sight). The Pantheon was built over 1800 years ago during the Roman Empire. It is basically a beautiful church with a hole in the dome that allowed people to pray directly to the heavens (without the roof getting in the way of the people and heaven). The crazy thing about it is that when it rains the water falls right through the hole onto the church floor. Even 1800 years ago though, they had created this magnificent church with drainage capability as to not ruin the church floor. Quite Impressive!!! We definitely want to go back to Rome - Italy is one of our favorite countries for sure!
P.S. As a side note, we kept driving the kids crazy throughout the trip by repeating, "you know what they say, when in Rome do what the Romans Do," but changed it for each place we were for example, "When in Egypt, do what the Egyptians do" Camden has truly had enough, because even back in Bamberg now, I joke "you know what they say, When in Bamberg.....

Did you see "Three Coins in the Fountain"? I loved that movie and recall the fountain so well. I know seeing all the sights there will be remembered. gp
