One of the sights that we definitely wanted to see while living in Europe was the Acropolis in Athens. We arrived in Athens and took the train to the backside of the hill, and followed the trails to the top. It was a nice way to head up to the top (not quite as touristy). Once at the top, we were amazed at the view, both of the city, and all of the ancient architecture. Truly a sight to see! Perhaps the most famous sight at the top of the Acropolis is the Parthenon that was built for the Goddess Athena in 438 BC! In Regensburg, Germany we had visited Bavaria's King Ludwig's Copycat version of the Parthenon, so it was especially fun to see the real thing. After taking in all of the sights and gathering dirt for our dirt collection from around the world, we headed back down to the hill to Areopagus, which is a rock where Paul gave his Sermon (it offered another incredible view of the Acropolis). We then walked around a bit and got some lunch at a little local place. In the afternoon we headed to the famous Panathinaiko Stadium, which is where the first Modern Olympics were held and also the finishing place for the Marathon during the 2004 Athens Olympics. It was also fun seeing olive and fruit trees all over the city. Turkey and Egypt also had many fruit trees around and about - kind of neat for us because it is so unusual to see. After a well deserved (the kids had been troopers )time of playing at a city park, we headed back to the pier. Another great day!

All I can say is that when all is done and said......You need to publish a book entitled "5 Rhodes in Deutschland"..... From the beginning to the end...... with all the photographs it will be a best seller...... And to think I knew the family.... very exciting thought huh? It is a beautiful sping-like day. Maybe the sun will get folks in a better spirit. Winter weather is noted for depression, etc..... Am enjoying all your blogs. gp
