Being that Bamberg is located in the upper region of Bavaria, there is very little water around with the exception of rivers. The rivers in Europe are hugely important and very functional. Bamberg sits on 2 rivers that add so much character, and of course are the reasons that this city was built here in the first place. A favorite place to go here is the "city beach." The funny thing about it is that there is absolutely no water there. Along the river is a bike path, and on the other side of the bike path from the river is a gated off area, where tons of sand was brought in to make you feel like you were at the beach. There are hammocks, and lounge chairs, tables, and playgrounds (even a trampoline for the kids to use), volleyball court etc.. There is a restaurant and music, and people can just sit and enjoy the beach (without the view of the water though). It is actually a really neat idea, and a fun place to go.

I just wonder what else the village of Bamberg can think of? That is absolutely awesome!!!!! It really is going to be difficult for you all to adjust when you have to return........ That is so unique and a great way to celebrate the summer....That is if it is not too hot. Enjoy! gp
