Bertchesgaden and Eagles Nest

This weekend we drove down to Southern Bavaria to visit Bertchesgaden. Eagles Nest (Hitler's famous Mountain Retreat, which is actually called the Kehlsteinhous in German) is only open in the late Spring through early summer because of the dangerous incline in order to get up to the top. My Mom and Dad really wanted to go visit, so rain or shine, this was the weekend we had to go - we did not expect SNOW!!!! The weather was less than accomodating for us. The beauty of the mountain views was lost due to fog, but we made the best of it with a yummy lunch in the former Dining Room. A little dissappointing, but neat to be there. We saw the fireplace that Mussolini gave Hitler as a gift, and the entryway tunnel, and famous elevator to the top. We also went to the documentation center where we were able to walk through the former Bunker. *****The Black and White photo is a photo of a picture of what the Eagles Nest is supposed to look like on a clear day
