"The Summer Ferien (Vacation) Book"

My friend gave me a copy of the Bamberg "Summer Ferien Book," which for us as been so much fun! Bamberg puts out one book for kids in July listing all of the oodles of activities, and opportunities for them throughout the city for the Summer Vacation (which for the Germans lasts Aug. 1 - Sept. 15th). It has been really neat to sign up for different activities that have short commitment times, and VERY small fees to see how the kids enjoy a certain sport or activity. The only hard part for us was choosing among the many things that were offered. Sports, arts and crafts, tours, camps etc. were all included - you register for the activities at one location which makes it so easy for parents. Judo (which Camden LOVED), Tennis, a Police Station tour, Basketball (for Bailey), and a Bike Safety Class were among the activities they chose. The Bike safety class was really neat because the city has a special course just for bike training, with street lights, traffic signs etc (like a "grown up" legoland driving course :-)) Next week wraps up our last activity, but the kids really have enjoyed trying new things - especially not knowing what to expect each time being that everything was offered in German :-)
