Trier, Germany

Trier is a quaint little city that is located in Germany, but borders Luxembourg. It is over 2000 years old, and is the oldest city in Germany. There are still remains of Roman Architecture here, with the Porta Nigra (the Collosseum looking structure) being the most famous. It was fun to walk up to it, because Camden recognized it as being almost identical to the outside of the Collosseum in Rome (it makes me happy that the kids are retaining atleast a little historical knowledge :-). The Dom (Cathedral) in Trier is also the oldest Christian Dom in Germany. It is HUGE, and quite impressive. During the Roman Empire, the city was called Augusta Trevororum, after Augustus Ceasar (who the kids studied about this year in school). Trier, sits on the Moselle Valley which is beautifully lined with vinyards and villages. Sometimes (especially with 3 kids :-)) it is too much to take in the history here in Europe. It is amazing to think what went on in these same cities that we visit!
