Burg Frankenstein

On the drive home from Paris, we decided to visit the "Burg Frankenstein" (AKA Frankenstein's Castle)." Just like the "Frankenstein" you know, the castle is the inspiration for Mary Shelly's famous story "Frankenstein." Our friends lived in the city of Darmstadt for a year, and I remembered her telling me about the castle. They had gone on Halloween, and unlike the U.S., there is no liability - which means no holds bar (ie. real chainsaws, people grabbing you, jumping out at you etc.) We chose the more tame version and decided to visit while there was a wedding reception going on (ironically). It is high atop the city of Darmstadt, and the views are beautiful. We had fun trying to scare each other (but in the middle of the day - it isn't quite so scary). A great visit!
