Mia started in a German Kindergarten last week and has really been enjoying it. She has her new "best friend," Meghan to keep her company. I joke with Meghan's Mom that Mia is "stalking" her because she wants to do everything Meghan does (even dress like her). It is quite amusing! They both stick together, but seem to be having fun. They also can argue like sisters! The funny thing is that Meghan is Asian also and we have had some of the teachers think they are sisters - when they find out that I am Mia's Mom - they just can't seem to figure it out! Bryan said that next time - he is going to act like he has taken offense and say "You mean you don't think she looks like me!" :-)
The philosophy of Kindergarten in Germany is so different than what we are used to. Mia's class has children ages 2- 6 years old in it -the older children can help the younger children and help teach them the "rules of the roost". The independence factor is amazing too. Mia has free reign to paint when she wants, color when she wants, play when she wants etc. There are some structured times in the day, but unlike what we are used to - it is gives a lot of freedom for kids to explore and learn. One of the funniest things to get used to is that at her Kindergarten (you notice I didn't say at home) she can help herself to juice or water at anytime by pouring herself a cup from a pitcher. When she is finished, she knows to go wash the cup out and set it out to dry! I still don't let Camden do this and he is 8! Such responsibility for a 3 year old! They also have "gear" that they keep at school: toothpaste, toothbrush, slippers, rain coat and rain pants. It just makes sense! Another thing that takes some getting used to is seeing all of the German kids (who look to be 5 years old and up) walking to school by themselves and taking the city bus. It is so fascinating to me! Basically it is like I have stepped back in time where the world was safe! It has been quite eye opening!

Thanks for the great pictures and post Bailey. I showed them to Mrs. Trudi that I work with. She is from Austria and really misses home so she liked them a lot. We miss you guys so much and hope to talk to you soon. Thanks for the stroller picture. We will wait a while to purchase one of those. Chloe started crawling and she keeps us super busy right now.

Hi there.
Great pictures of the girls. It's nice that Mia has a friend to pal around with. Maybe this will be the beginning of a lifelong friend just like you (Allison) and Lynn. Bryan: You'll have to work on your eyes a bit to pass for Asian.

Kindergarten sounds kind of Montessori-ish. Great that Mia is enjoying school.
