A river boat passing by....
Originally, we had planned to go to Austria last weekend, but with school starting, Bryan's new work, and other activities, we decided it would be nice to just lay low and enjoy a 3 day weekend at home. On Sunday, we went on a long bike ride. My favorite thing about living here is being able to get anywhere you want on your bike. There are thousands of miles of bike trails that are used to the full extent, and I love it. There is a town town outside of Bamberg, called Pettstadt that has a 600 year old " ferry boat" tradition. It dates back to the late 1400's. When you are biking or walking and want to cross the river, there is this man on a small barge that will paddle you from one side of the river to the other. The cost is .50 cent each, but Mia was free.  The barge was our destination - we wanted to see this famous "Pettstadt" tradition. Once we crossed the river, we asked for a suggestion of a restaurant, and found a "gasthaus" not too far away, that was delicious. Bailey and Camden were not too thrilled at first with our excursion, but turned around a bit towards the end, and I think enjoyed themselves as well :-). There are signs all throughout the bike paths to help you find your way. The thing that always amazes me is the age of the other bikers. I would guess that the average age of bikers you see is 65 years old plus. We even see 80 year old people on bikes - it is such an active country! Definitely an inspiration. The Germans LOVE the outdoors!!! A fun day!!!
