Fasching

This week we have celebrated Fasching in a big way! Fasching (also known as Carnival or Mardi Gras) is the big celebration before lent, and in Bavaria they do it big! All last week Mia dressed up in a costume for Kindergarten. Of course she was a Princessin (a princess). One day though she surprised us and came home as a cat (her classmate decorated her face :-) They had a big Fasching Party as well. On Sunday we went to a Fasching Parade in an adorable village, with my brother, his girlfriend and son (they are visiting from England). The Parade was a blast! Today we went to another Parade here in Bamberg, and it was quite chaotic, but fun. As part of being in Bavaria, they have beer trucks and gluhwein wagons that are part of the parade handing out free beverages - only in Germany! A great time before the serious season of Lent!

You all are going to be soooo bored when and if you return to the states. What fun.... so many celebrations...... I bet the locals are so accustomed to traditions that they have no idea of their cultural beauty and uniqueness. Only visitors are in awe! The kids look so happy! Love, gp
